Résumé. Cet article propose de comparer la géographie du tourisme au départ du foyer français à l'échelle mondiale selon deux grandes modalités de pratiques touristiques, le tourisme sédentaire et le tourisme itinérant. Complétant les typologies déjà existantes fondées sur l'exploitation des chiffres de l'Organisation mondiale du tourisme, la méthodologie repose sur l'exploitation d'une source différente, celle des catalogues de tour-opérateurs. En comparant les rangs des différents pays selon la modalité “itinérance” et “sédentarité”, il s'agit de dégager des profils spécifiques ou indifférenciés de destinations. La mondialisation du tourisme offre alors un visage différent, et les traditionnels foyers récepteurs peuvent être bousculés par des “périphéries” qui n'apparaissent pas sur les cartes dressées à l'aide des statistiques par ailleurs facilement manipulables de l'OMT.

Abstract. This article aims to compare the tourism geography at the departure of the French home at international scale, thanks to two main modalities of touristic practices, sedentary tourism and itinerant tourism. Completing the existing typologies based on the exploitation of the data of the WTO, the methodology is based on another kind of sources, the one of the tour operators travel catalogues. By comparing the ranks of the different countries according to the modality “itinerance” and “sedentarity”, we try to find the specific or undifferentiated profiles of the destinations. The globalisation of tourism offers, then, a different face and the traditional receiving homes could be pushed aside by “suburbs” which don't appear on maps drawed thanks to the statistics of the WTO, besides easy to manipulate.
